Description
Over the centuries, Provence has drawn many to its charm. First, the Romans, who gave the area its name because it was the first Roman province outside of Italy, then the Papacy and later on, many of the famous Impressionists like Cezanne and Van Gogh.

This tour takes you to Provence via the TGV (which stands for train à grande vitesse and is French for "high-speed train" or "train of great speed"). Acknowledged as the world’s fastest train, the TGV brings you to Provence from Paris in only 2 hours and 35 minutes, covering a distance of 700 kilometers.

Upon arriving in Avignon, we visit the Pope’s Palace, built by Popes Benedict and Clement VI between 1334 and 1363. Through an audio guide and commentary, we’ll explore what is now considered one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.

The tour will have some free time to explore Avignon and for lunch (not included).

In the afternoon, we drive to Saint Rémy de Provence for a photo stop and proceed to a guided visit of the perched village Les Baux de Provence that has a spectacular position in the Alpilles mountains, set atop a rocky outcrop and crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south.

There will also be free time for shopping. There is an excellent range of souvenir shops in Avignon and Les Baux selling quality gifts items, cotton fabrics for the table dressing and home decoration, aromatic olive oil in beautiful glass bottles, pottery and perfumed soap.

The tour’s final stop is “Pont du Gard”, the famous aqueduct built by the Roman Empire dating back to the 1st century. The structure is on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
