The tour leaves Paris through the western districts and makes it way to Bonnière through the Normandy motorway. We'll reach Giverny in an hour-and-a-half.
Claude Monet lived at Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. In the surroundings of his home, Monet created the famous flower and water garden with its Japanese bridge which became his main source of inspiration. Thousands of American painters came to France to discover the new French artistic trends. Claude Monet was a particular interest to the Americans and many of them studied at Giverny.
There will be a guided tour and commentary in the gardens before some designated free time to explore Monet's home and studio at your own pace.
The tour stops at the quaint 350-year-old Moulin de Fourges. The old mill was erected by the builders of the Hameau de la Reine (the Queen's Hamlet) near the Palace of Versailles.
Moulin de Fourges Lunch Menu
- Fish loaf with dill cream
- Poultry blanquette with mushrooms
- Rice and vegetables
- Apple pie
After lunch, we head to the former home of French royalty. Versailles, built for Louis XIV to symbolize his power and the influence of France, bears witness to the luxurious court and the artistic genius of the 17th and the 18th centuries. Whether it is the gilt and marbles of the King's apartments, the silks of Marie- Antoinette's bedroom, or the impeccable design of Le Nôtre's gardens, you will feel you are entering a dream world where the history of France was written for more than a hundred years, just before the French Revolution.
There will be free time for the visit of the gardens after a guided visit of the Royal Apartments.
