On the way to Giverny, you will be given an introduction to the life and work of Claude Monet. After a short stop stop at the cemetery to visit Monet's tomb, you will go on a guided visit of Monet's Gardens and house. You will have some time to sample the coffee and cake at the Cafe Baudy, which was the residence of so many American painters such as Whistler, Metcalf, Robinson, Sargent, Mary Cassatt as well as the French painters Renoir and Cezanne. Lunch will be served at the 250 year old watermill on the river Epte.
You will then drive along the Route des Cretes, where you will be able to enjoy the exceptional panorama over the Seine valley. You will see a 9th century watchtower built at the time of the Vikings' invasion, the chateau of La Roche Guyon that became Erwin Rommel's headquarters during World War II, the village of Vetheuil where Monet spent the three hardest years of his life, and Mantes la Jolie and its 12th century Gothic cathedral.
On the way to Versailles, your tour guide will give you a quick introduction to the century of the Sun King and the history of the Palace. You will have a private guided visit with pre reserved tickets for fast line entry of the Royal Apartments, the Chapel, the Hall of Mirrors, the Queen's Apartments, the Hall of the Battles and for the final touch, a small private walking tour through the magnificent gardens and groves of the most famous palace in the world. If there is still time, you may stop at the Grand Canal, Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon, and the hamlet of the Queen Marie-Antoinette.
