Discover France through its wine and food. You will have a commentary in English as you appreciate 3 wines from different regions which change depending on the time of year. To accompany the wine, you will be given small tastings from the same region so you can understand how the wine and food blend together. You will not taste ordinary wines but natural hand-made wines made from small independent producers that are very hard to find.
Then head to La Pomponette for dinner. Even if time has slightly altered Montmartre's local scenery, the dining room remains faithful to its original style when the restaurant opened in 1909. Paintings on the walls are a reminder of the charming atmosphere of the old-time Montmartre. The tablecloths and other décorative pieces bear the signature of Poulbot, one of many other artists, all friends of Arthur Delcroix. All of these contribute in giving the place its early 20th century touch. In this refined and friendly setting you can just relax and spend a pleasant moment.
Afterwards, proceed to the corner of the rue Saint Vincent and the rue des Saules, on the northern slope of the Butte Montmartre, where the Lapin Agile stands like a beacon of light and has done so for almost one and a half centuries. Be moved at songs played in a strange little enchanted house.
Many Americans and English have become fond of the atmosphere of the Lapin Agile. Charlie Chaplin spent several nights here, and played his violin one time. Ernest Hemingway, Eleanor Roosevelt, Edward G. Robinson, Robert Mitchum, Dana Winters, Lauren Bacall, Henry Miller and famous Old Hollywood couples such as Laurence Olivier & Vivien Leigh and Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward have all spent some time here.
The show at the Lapin Agile "Songs, Music, Humour, Poetry" is composed of a variety of several songs: old French songs, Edith Piaf songs, chansons of Paris, and drinking songs with all the audience singing along in an ambiance typical of the Lapin Agile, the cabaret known throughout the world.
