Vincent Van Gogh spent the last months of his life at Auvers painting one canvas each day. He died at Auvers and was buried in the small cemetery of the village. Claude Monet lived at Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. In the surroundings of his home, Monet created the famous flower and water garden with its Japanese bridge which became his main source of inspiration. Thousands of American painters came to France to discover the new French artistic trends. Claude Monet was a particular interest to the Americans and many of them studied at Giverny.
